Unbeaten in his first five starts before finishing third when favourite for the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, Dermot Weld's five-year-old failed to fire when turned out quickly for the Curragh Cup, but was expected to bounce back in the Irish Classic. The Moyglare Stud-owned stayer moved strongly towards the front, but was left trailing in the wake of the impressive Order Of St George and passed the post a well-beaten fifth. Fiona Craig, breeding advisor for the owners, said: " We were a little bit disappointed, but I think two miles is probably just his trip. "He had to do it himself a little bit towards the front and he probably just lacks the turn of foot at that level over a mile and three-quarters. "He's come out of it fine and it has always been the plan to take him back to Ascot for the stayers' cup."
