The Oliver McKiernan-trained Somersby Roost opened her account under Rules in no uncertain manner in division one of the Farm And Industrial Spares Mallow Handicap Hurdle at Cork. Lady Bluebird made a bold bid from the front in this 2m3f event but was reeled in as Somersby Roost made smooth headway to lead approaching the last.

The point-to-point winner cruised clear on the run-in under Phillip Enright to beat Lady Bluebird by a facile seven lengths, with Eastmore a length and a half further back in third.

“Her form all year has been solid without getting her head in front and she had a lovely run in Leopardstown in March. We were hoping today's drying ground would bring about improvement in her, and she travelled and jumped well,” said Enright of the 11/1 winner.

"She is a small summer mare and hopefully now she can pick up something else. At some stage she could jump a summer fence and Oliver's horses are back in form now, which is great."
