Something Noble springs 50/1 surprise at Killarney The Ciaran Murphy trained Something Noble stepped up on anything he had done on the Flat when springing a 50/1 upset on his jumping debut in the opening Killarney Park Hotel 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle. Unplaced on all three runs on the level, the son of Teofilo showed significant improvement when faced with a set of hurdles for the first time. Settled mid-division by Eoin Walsh, the gelding moved second behind the more experienced Kasper Hauser early in the straight. Pushed along to dispute jumping the final flight, Something Noble soon led, staying on strongly to score by one-and-a-half lengths. Urgent Whisper, who was travelling nicely with nowhere to go from two out, eventually found a gap and ran on well to finish third. Ciaran Murphy said: "That wasn't really a surprise as we think this (hurdling) is his future but obviously with Joseph (O'Brien) and the other lads having a great record on these races and those horses also had a previous hurdle run. "We were thrilled with him at home and if he had run a nice race today, we'd have been happy but to win is great. I'm very impressed with Eoin today as he gave him a super ride. "He was bought with this job in mind, he has loads of scope and he will also do the Flat job too. He wants it on the softer side but he is immature, so we'll give him time. "My horses are in great form and I'm thrilled with them. They're coming right at the right time." Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes.
