Sporting Glance survived a clipped heel at the final fence to land the Munster Drilling Beginners Chase in Limerick.

Ben Harvey was content to watch Rusty Harkness and Ad Caelum tussle at the head of affairs before he improved his mount to lead narrowly from Rusty Harkness two out.

The latter was still in there pitching at the last and, while both were less than perfect there, Rusty Harkness clipped Sporting Glance's heel as they touched down.

It didn't stop Sporting Glance's momentum as he went on by a length and a-half at 4/1 from the 5/2 favourite Rusty Harkness. This was the winner's first go at the bigger obstacles.

Cian Collins said: "It was his first run back and he will probably come on a little bit from this, but we had him fairly ready. We always felt he would make a better chaser than hurdler and it looks like that now.

"Ben wanted to teach him and we were hopeful of a nice first run over fences, and I thought he jumped nicely and did it well. He'll learn plenty from this and loves that ground.

"He could go to Cartmel for a nice pot at the end of June and we will have a look at Galway too, as he has won there in the past."

Sporting Glance has two hurdle victories in the locker at Galway and Downpatrick.
