We always felt he would make a better chaser than hurdler and it looks like that now. The Raceday Stewards received a request from Cian Collins, trainer of Sporting Glance (FR), to substitute the nominated rider B.W. Harvey, with D.J. Gilligan, as his intended mount was a non-runner. The trainer stated that D.J. Gilligan frequently rides for him when available, he had ridden the animal previously and as it was Sporting Glance's first time over fences, his preference was for D.J. Gilligan to take up the ride. Having considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards denied the request on this occasion as B.W. Harvey had ridden the animal previously and they felt the request was not a valid one, as provided for under Regulation 3
D.J O'Keeffe, rider of Rusty Harkness (GB), trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount stumbled after jumping the last fence and caught the winner’s heel. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no riding offence had occurred and that no further action was warranted.
A steeplechase for five years old and upwards that have not won a steeplechase and which at entry are rated 120 or less over hurdles Weights - 11st 12lbs. Mares allowed 7lbs.
