A course and distance winner of the Derby Trial in May before finishing fourth to Auguste Rodin at Epsom, the Jessica Harrington-trained Sprewell bids to bounce back to form in the Trigo Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday.

The Churchill colt will be taking a marked drop in class having been soundly beaten in the Irish Derby and the Irish Champion Stakes on his last two starts.

Speaking after the stable's second double in two days at Navan yesterday, assistant trainer Kate Harrington said: "He'll love the ground (currently soft to heavy).

"Bit of a recovery mission albeit he wasn't completely disgraced in the Irish Champion Stakes, just the ground was too quick for him.

"It looks a very hot renewal of that Listed contest - normally in a Listed race you would be seeing horses in the 90s and I think they are all nearly rated over 100. It is a very competitive field, but it is a nice option for him.

"He did a bit of work this morning and Shane was absolutely delighted with him.

"His owners are Bahraini and they are quite keen for him to go out to the International out there in the middle of November so it is kind of a stepping stone to go there."
