Gordon Elliott's The Mediator bounced back to form in good style in Division 1 of the John Thomas McNamara Series (Q.R.) Handicap at Clonmel.

Josh Halford had plenty of horse under him as he produced the eight-year-old gelding to lead racing to the final furlong of this staying assignment. Sequoiaspirit looked threatening on his outer entering the final furlong, but The Mediator extended in the closing stages to take the honours by two lengths at 15/2. Rich Belief (25/1 - 16/1) got up for second from 3/1 favourite Sequiaspirit.

Halford said: "Gordon told me to take my time and it suited him down to the ground. His last run was in a charity race (finishing fourth under Tara Moneypenny who led him up today) when he flew home, having been dropped out.

"I got him into a rhythm and let him enjoy himself and he flew home. He had been working well at home and is a horse with plenty of ability, but the key to him is probably dropping him out.

"The charity race definitely sweetened him up."
