Tipperary happy with pre-racing initiative

Tipperary's decision to give the first 100 racegoers free admission this afternoon achieved the aim of creating a good pre-racing atmosphere according to Racecourse Manager Nessa Joyce.

Ms Joyce, who moves on to Leopardstown as Racing and Operations Manager in a few weeks time, said, “We wanted to create an atmosphere before racing, and the 100 all arrived within the first half-an-hour of the gates opening at mid-day.

“With the first three races being all Flat it can often take a while for a crowd to build up but with this incentive, and the tipping advice of David Byrnes and Damian McElroy in the parade ring, it worked well.

“I tried to carry on the good work of previous Manager Peter Roe over the past year, and hopefully the momentum that has been built up at Tipperary can be carried on by the next Manager. I will be winding up here in the next couple of weeks, and am looking forward to the new challenge at Leopardstown” added Ms Joyce.

Tipperary's final meeting of 2011 will be held on Tuesday October 4.
