TP Burns passes away

The death has taken place of TP Burns at the age of 94.

Burns who will be remembered as an integral part of legendary trainer Vincent O'Brien's team died peacefully on Monday. He will lie in repose at his home, Landfall Paddocks on the Curragh on Tuesday. His funeral mass will take place on Wednesday at 11.00 in St Brigid’s Church, the Curragh before burial in Tynaclash Cemetery, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow.

Burns had a riding career which spanned four decades during the middle of the last century and included an Irish Derby victory aboard Ballymoss in 1957 and six Irish Classics in all. He also rode Arkle to win a Flat race in 1963.

Burns was also an accomplished National Hunt jockey and rode nine winners at the Cheltenham Festival.

After retiring from the saddle Burns stayed on at Ballydoyle as assistant to O'Brien before filling the same role with Dermot Weld on the Curragh in later years.

BURNS Thomas Pascal T.P., (Landfall Paddocks, The Curragh, R56 CK20) - 14th May 2018 (peacefully) after a short illness under the wonderful care of the staff at St. Vincent's Hospital Athy. Beloved husband of the late Christine. Sadly missed by his loving sons James and Tom, his sister Stella, grandchildren Tommy, Elodie and Anna, daughter-in-law Helen and James' partner Lia.

Reposing at his home (Landfall) tomorrow (Tuesday, May 15th) from 1 o'clock until prayers at 8 o'clock. Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in St. Brigid's Church, The Curragh. Burial afterwards in Tynaclash Cemetery, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow. Donations, if desired, to the Irish Injured Jockey's Fund. Donations box in the Church.
