Walsh supports Coleman's use of whip Ruby Walsh believes the British Horseracing Authority's rules regarding the use of the whip are "the real problem" following the decision to hold a belated inquiry into Aidan Coleman's winning ride in the Welsh Grand National. Coleman partnered the Venetia Williams-trained Emperor's Choice to a short-head victory in the Chepstow feature on December 27, with the local stewards raising no concerns about his ride on the day. However, it was confirmed on Friday that Coleman's efforts will be examined at an inquiry before racing at the Welsh venue on January 16, a move which has surprised Walsh. He told the Irish Examiner: "I watched that race closely and felt the whip was used properly by the jockeys on all of the first three home. "To my eyes, Aidan utilised the whip correctly and responsibly and his horse kept responding. The issue, of course, is not the jockeys, but rather the BHA and their whip rules. "The rules are the real problem and the BHA has essentially dug a hole for itself. The old maxim tells us that when in a hole, you should stop digging. "The BHA thought they would be world leaders when it came to the regulation of the whip. But, and this is very important, not one leading racing nation has followed their lead."
