Whelan's mount a different Proposition on second start After Classiest in the opening one-mile maiden, Aidan O'Brien doubled up in the two-year-old maiden over seven furlongs at Galway when Proposition (7/2, from 9s overnight) scored under Ronan Whelan. As in the first race, it was a case of a bigger-priced Ballydoyle runner getting the better of an odds-on stablemate. The winner, down the field on his first start at Navan, sat second to Garden Party (5/6 fav) and was ridden over two furlongs out. Once hitting the rising ground in the straight, the Frankel colt started to wear down Garden Party and got by her inside the final furlong to post a length and a half victory. The winner is closely related to top performers Magical and Rhododendron. Whelan has ridden two Group 1 winners for Ballydoyle this year including Saturday's William Hill Futurity Trophy winner Hawk Mountain. Stable representative Chris Armstrong said: "He has an unbelievable pedigree and was just raw and babyish the first day. Even today he was still very raw but when Ronan galvanised him, he galloped out strong to the line.  "He'll be a lovely middle-distance horse for next year, he handles that ground and will get further. He isn't too bad." He added "Ronan was at a crossroads at the beginning of the year and himself and Dave (Keena, agent) were looking where to go, so decided to start with Aidan and work back down. After knocking on that first door, it opened but initially there were no promises made. "He is down with us three days a week, is a great asset and is a lovely fella and a very good rider.  "If you put your head down and work, you'll get the opportunity and it is the same for Liam (Keniry, who rode the second, Garden Party) who joined us this year as well. He rode an awful lot of winners and is in full-time with us, as well as Shane Kelly. Aidan tries to get all those riders winners through the year."   Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes
