Winters aiming high with Chatham Street Lad Trainer Mick Winters is prepared to tackle the big guns later this month with stable star Chatham Street Lad after his seasonal reappearance at Limerick. The Beneficial gelding showed sustained improvement last term when his emphatic victory in the valuable Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham’s December meeting was undoubtedly the highlight. The 9-year-old returned to Prestbury Park in the spring to finish fourth to Chantry House in the Grade 1 Marsh Novices’ Chase at the festival and rounded off the campaign with an easy win in a Grade 3 novice contest at Limerick when taking the step up to three miles in his stride. His seventh to Onthropes in last month’s Ladbrokes Munster National was perhaps a little underwhelming but he was carrying topweight in his first outing for over six months. “The plan is to go for the Betfair Chase (on November 20th) with Chatham Street Lad,” said Winters. “There are a few other options like the Clonmel Oil Chase and it will be a hot race in Haydock with the likes of A Plus Tard but we’ll let him take his chance. “He’s come on well from the run in Limerick and is in good form.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee
