Permission was given for Tanjen (IRE) to go to post early, for Ardennes (IRE) to go to post early wearing a red hood and for Grace Angel (GB) and Speed Of Maajid (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Sugar Baby (GB), ridden by Callum Rodriguez and trained by Peter Niven which, having been tight for room in the early stages thus losing its position, was tenderly handled throughout the remainder of the race to finish eleventh of fourteen, beaten by 11 lengths.
They interviewed the rider who stated that he had been given no specific riding instructions as he knows the gelding well but his intention had been to get a good start, hold his position and to come with a strong late run, having been recently running well over 6 furlongs.
He explained that, having broken well, Sugar Baby (GB) did not have enough pace to hold his position and lost ground when becoming crowded for room approximately one and a half furlongs after the start; and then lost further ground one and a half furlongs out when Dark Kestrel (IRE), placed fourth, and Knicks (IRE), unplaced, left him short of racing room in front of him and was unable to quicken thereafter, so rode hands and heels to the line.
He added that he considered that SUGAR BABE would benefit from a return to 6 furlongs.
The Stewards noted his explanation.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately two and a half furlongs out involving Jungle Run (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jack Callan and KING’S CROWN (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Daniel Muscutt.
Callan was suspended for 4 days for careless riding, as he shifted his mount right-handed, when insufficiently clear, causing Muscutt to take a significant check on the rail.
Following the race, Daniel Muscutt reported that KING’S CROWN (IRE), unplaced, suffered interference approximately two and a half furlongs out; Ray Dawson reported that Ardennes (IRE), unplaced, jumped awkwardly from the stalls; Cam Hardie reported that Dark Kestrel (IRE), placed fourth, was slowly away; Kieran O’Neill reported that Phoenix Beach (IRE), placed fifth, hung right-handed and Jack Callan reported that Jungle Run (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed.
