Formscan - In a wide-open renewal of this contest, marginal preference is for ROMEO COOLIO. Gordon Elliott's gelding steps up markedly in trip and that is a concern, but he has won two Grade 1 contests over 2m1f at Leopardstown this season while looking in need of further. His most impressive displays this season have come over 2m4f, including a Drinmore success as well as a 14-length defeat of Koktail Divin at Down Royal in October, and he could prove hard to beat if seeing out the trip. Final Demand had been popular for this race all season prior to his defeat at the Dublin Racing Festival and he has questions to answer right now. With that in mind, Wendigo could prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of Western Fold and The Big Westerner.

He was very good, he doesn’t quite show that at home. I think he’s probably relentless and has a really high cruising speed. Jasmin De Vaux won this bumper before he won in Cheltenham (in 2024), but he’d be a very different type of horse to him. He’s a relentless galloper, a big strong horse. I’d imagine he’s a Cheltenham horse. He could be along the lines of Florida Pearl, those Cheltenham bumper horses.

He jumped fantastic but was very lairy on his own in front. I looked through my legs after the third last and saw that something had obviously gone amiss with Danny (Mullins aboard stablemate Jimmy Du Seuil). After that it was just a case of getting him home. At the last I said ‘just don’t do anything silly’ and he came back and was very good. He was like riding an armchair. I wanted to be going a stride faster all the way as I thought Jimmy Du Seuil might be a faster horse. Going down the back the last time I asked him to go on and he did. I wish I could have gone around again!. I think in a more competitive race he’ll travel better. He was so lazy today which is great.

I got a lovely time in front, jumped from fence to fence, and got an easy enough time of it. When Darragh (O'Keeffe, on Slade Steel) came past me at the second-last, I thought maybe he had me, but I kept picking up and picking up and he was a good winner at the line. These (Ricci) colours used to be very good to me with Willie and I've had a bit of luck with them, so hopefully it will continue. I was just saying to someone the other day, he has such high standards. If he doesn't have a day with a winner, people are giving out. He has such a high standard now, everyone expects him to win all the races.

Kaid d’Authie was always a horse that showed me a lot at home. I’d think just putting cheekpieces on him has made a huge difference. It’s bringing out the sort of ability that he shows me at home. He’s a horse that’s always been disappointing to me, on the racetrack. The cheekpieces just made a big difference to him. Mark said he only made one bit of a mistake, at the third last, but he said otherwise he was foot perfect.

He needed that. It was a nice performance, he jumped economically and Paul was happy that he’d improve from that. We’ll look for a race after Christmas maybe the one at Limerick (Grade 1 Faugheen Novice Chase). Kaid D’Authie ran well and I’d say a longer trip. He jumps well, gallops, and covers a lot of ground. He just needed the run as well.

He was really good and we’re delighted with that. He jumped brilliant, Darragh was brilliant on him and he picked up really well. He’s had three runs so we’ll see what want to do now. Obviously the lads would love to go to Cheltenham so I’d imagine we’ll go there, and then it’s a matter of whether we’d have a run in between. The Dublin Racing Festival is a big meeting as well so we’ll see what everyone wants to do.

it was a brilliant performance and was nice to get it out of the way. He loved the ground, had the ears pricked the whole way and it looked like he could have gone around again. He's a very easy horse to ride, so I just leave it up to Dan. He just likes to do his own thing but, if someone wanted to give us a lead, we would have been happy enough. He seems to be taking racing well, is improving and he jumped great. after the last day, we had this race pencilled in and I suppose we can make more plans now. He takes his racing well, so we will see how he is during the week and go from there. The timing of the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham would be good. He keeps improving, so you never know where he could end up.

I was on the back foot really the whole way from there. I suppose his stamina kicked in down to the last and he probably got a bit lonely in front. To be fair to the mare (Kargese), she was good and hardy to get back at him . He does (have the heart of a lion), he is very tough. I was very happy with his jumping, I thought it was a lot sharper today until the ditch down the back. I met the next one lovely and I kind of just let him at it himself, thinking he would come and he just put in another little short one. Thankfully, he got it done anyway. I suppose it is (relief) a bit when you are coming into the weekend thinking he is probably your best chance of a winner. Obviously, we had a great day yesterday, but I suppose with these good horses you just want them to get over the line. They went a good gallop, the pedal never came off. They went very fast. Our lad needs every bit of the trip, he was flat out. The mare had us at it. He made a few mistakes, but he’s very gutsy and he digs deep. He pulled up when he got to the front then and I was glad the line came when it did. It’ll be interesting to see what Jack says. I’d say Jack maybe idled a bit as well, he thought he was home and hosed. He should have kept going, but thankfully we held on. They are great lads and big supporters of Cullentra. This horse was bought to be a stayer, we’re hoping he’ll go the whole way. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him stepping out in trip now. He has three G

That was impressive, as he had top weight around here in a tricky enough race,. I had him in the beginners' chase at Leopardstown over Christmas but it was after we got the handicap mark recently that I decided to come here. He also likes the nicer ground here. He had some good runs, had a nice run here the last day and that bit of experience stood to him. . We'll see where he goes next and being suited by spring ground, Cheltenham is a possibility.

He is a good horse, was rated 157 today and is still a novice for the year. He could head to Down Royal for the Champion Chase or we could keep him for the Drinmore (novice). He loves jumping and Danny gets a good tune out of him. I was going to put Jack (Kennedy, stable jockey) on him but come Down Royal and the Drinmore, Jack will have other horses to ride so I kept the combination together. We brought him to Ayr one day when he lost his confidence but is back going the right way now. He didn't win until Tipperary in May so is a novice for the whole season, and I don't know if there are as many novices with the experience that he has. We have loads of options but I was nervous about meeting deep ground here today but when we came here, I was happy to run.
