Formscan - This looks a good opportunity for JAGWAR to open his account. Following a near-miss in a 2m4f maiden at Aintree, Jonjo O'Neill's gelding was sent off favourite for a competitive handicap in the mud at Haydock and only weakened into fifth late on. With slightly better ground and a drop in class to suit, he could take some stopping. Blazing Soldier kept on well to make a winning hurdling bow over 2m1f at Newcastle and should appreciate this extra yardage, but he has to concede 7lb to his rivals here as a result of that success. Hexham bumper scorer Clovis Island looks best of the rest.
