THE FEN COLLISON-HUGHES HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY MAIDEN HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (ARC Summer Novices' Brush Hurdle Series Qualifier) (D (GBB RACE) Permission was given for L'amalric (FR) to wear a red hood to the start.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Eustace Grenier (FR), ridden by Kevin Brogan and trained by Olly Murphy, which raced in mid-division until being pulled wide turning into the home straight, whereupon the gelding stayed on under apparent tender handling to finish fourth of ten runners, beaten by 17¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer examined Eustace Grenier (FR) post-race and had nothing to report.
The rider stated his instructions had been to sit three-quarters of the way back, get the gelding switched off and obtain the best possible position.
He added that he was happy with the way the race had panned out, as he had managed to switch Eustace Grenier (FR) off and race in a good position off a not overly quick pace.
He further added that the pace had quickened in the back straight and he had asked the gelding for an effort from the back of the third-last hurdle but Eustace Grenier (FR) had made a mistake at the final two hurdles, and felt he had finished in the best possible position.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride.
