Berto blossoms for McNamara at Down Royal
He does appreciate that better ground, we ran him on softer ground through the winter, and the lads were hoping that he would get into the Fred Winter. It was on softer ground than he would like. He had some nice runs and just missed out on the Fred Winter, so they gave him a spin around in the Triumph just for a day out. This is much more back to his own level of stuff today, but he did it well and travelled well. You'd like to think he would be able to do something on the Flat as well - because we tried to get him into the Fred Winter, he's probably fairly exposed mark-wise over hurdles, so we had to come back for a maiden. We'll see where he goes, there's rated novices and things for the summer. I'd say mixing and matching - the lads probably prefer hurdling to the Flat. That will be the priority, or we will aim that way. I'm sure the Flat will definitely feature along the way too.
Bella backs up for McConnell
He Can't Dance has the moves to give Elliott a 1-2
Canyon leaps to debut win over fences
He won a point-to-point for Gavin (Cromwell) and we haven't schooled him that much over fences. We knew he would be good, he's very good over a hurdle. Even the last day in Fairyhouse, Sean Bowen rode him, he probably jumped a bit high, but he was very good there today. Paddy was happy and he said he was filling himself up and having a look in front. He did it easily. He said he didn't mind them getting to him because he knew he would pick up and go.
Goody Four Shoes delights Gibney after protracted battle
He was great. We thought the last day here (fell four out) we were definitely going to be there or thereabouts. He hadn't moved and he was well in it. We were very disappointed because we felt like we were going to be contenders. It was great that this race was coming up a few weeks later, there was a lovely time between the two to let him recover and come back and see whether we were right or wrong. We have been vindicated. It was a terrific battle and he's never had to do that before. He's had very little racing, he's a relatively inexperienced horse for his age. He's a big horse who took a lot of time and it is brilliant.
Catalani clear winner of hunter chase
Catalani is a real favourite at home, and everyone loves him. His form has been fierce good this year, he hasn't been out of the first three whether it be a point-to-point or on the track bar one day in Thurles. Rob was delighted with him, he said it is as good as he has ever jumped and he loves that good ground. The ground was important to him. He has a real good appetite for the game, and we'll keep him on the go now during the summer.
Wincham makes big impression on bumper debut
Marie Sullivan from Godolphin met me last February, a year ago if I'm not mistaken, and said had I time to wait for horse. She said there was a lovely wee horse that just needs a bit of time. I threw him out to the field and brought him back in. He has done a couple of lovely pieces of work. Very, very green - it was his first time on grass for me. We knew he would like the ground. I'd say when he was bred, he wasn't supposed to be that (4,000gns). Aine gave him a superb ride, she is one of the best in the business. She let them go on and cut each other's throats, and she had the horse under her. He could be going to the sales. Either that or I will put him back on the Flat, he has plenty of speed and he is very well bred as well.
