THE CHARNLEY'S HOME & GARDEN CENTRE HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) The Starter reported that George Bewley, the trainer of Red Happy (FR), had waved his arms at the gelding to encourage it to start.
The trainer and the Starters were interviewed and recordings of the incident were shown.
Bewley was fined £140 for failing to comply with the Starting Procedures Code.
The Starter reported that Red Happy (FR) had refused to race as the start was effected and was deemed to be a runner.
Jonathon Bewley, George Bewley, and the Starters were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
As the gelding had also refused to race at Kelso on 20 April 2026, and Perth on 14 May 2026, the matter was referred to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
