That was good. He was just sort of an immature horse and was always going to need a couple of runs to learn the job. I didn’t really expect this. He’s a quirky sort but he got the rail and picked up well. We’ll look forward to the Birdcatcher, it’s a great pot. It’s really pleasing, I bred him myself. I actually bought the mare in America for the minimum bid of $3,000 and it cost me 10 grand to get her back but I’m glad I did. She’s paid me back now. He’s always shown bits and pieces of ability but my concern was when he’d put it together. He did today. Hopefully the penny has dropped now.

She’s a very nice filly, we like her. She’s shown us plenty of ability at home,. We don’t over-prep them first time out, they usually come on. They usually take a blow and need the experience but we were kind of hopeful something like that might happen on what she was showing us at home. Ronan gave her a lovely ride. She loved the ground and was very straightforward. It’s nice to see. The Round Tower could be a possibility, we’ve made no firm plans and we’ll see what else is available. She hit the line strongly; she apparently took a blow at the furlong pole and then hit the line fairly well. I wouldn’t be afraid of stepping her up but I don’t think I need to right away. It gives us a few options.

She broke smartly and got into a good rhythm in front,. Orla gave her a similar ride here in a premier handicap. We just put a line through the last day (in Gowran) as she got too hot in the parade-ring. In fairness Dylan (Browne McMonagle) suggested putting a red hood on today and it worked. She was in off a lovely weight today with Orla’s 7lb off her and she gave her a good ride. She’s a tough filly. She broke smart and got a good advantage but, in fairness to Orla, she knows what she’s at. She gave her plenty of a fill and said she’d let them come to her and push her on. She’s a good rider and will get plenty of rides off us. We might look at going for another premier handicap with her. She finished third here in one (in late June).

It was horrific to watch!,. That was just what we wanted, he quickened up nicely and put it to bed. Oisin was very happy with him. Everything went exactly how we wanted. I thought he was quite impressive today. I know he beat horses that he’s much better than, but he quickened up very well. Oisin felt like he was improving and said he gave him a very good feel. We’re very pleased.

It was great. Rossa said she is brave, she put the head down and tried very hard,. After Ascot we gave her a little bit of break and there is a bit more to come from her. She needed this run, she got a couple of weeks off and is just back now. It was good to get her head in front there. She was a good second in York and had a good run in Ascot as well. I’m delighted with today. She’s entered for a Group Three in France on September 3. Rossa also mentioned there that there is a Group Three in Doncaster so we’ll have a look. She’s sharp and I’m keen to stick to five at the moment. Maybe next year we could step her up to six.

That’s 10 races won now and to have a horse that can win 10 races in this country, it’s hard enough to win one. He’s a legend and we love him,. He loves it here, it’s maybe the stiff five. He had a couple of flat spots at the end of last year and the start of this year. When he’s on song he’s on song. He looks well and everything has been going well. We’ve run him over six once and he didn’t get home. I think there is a race in Bellewstown for him, he likes the fast five there. That depends on what the handicapper does. I had a fair idea that he’d overturn Mary Shoelaces today. Colin (Keane) felt he probably could have won the last day. Paddy’s 5lb helped. We’re trying to help Paddy and Sam Coen, they are all neighbours and friends so it’s not simple. I used to be slagging Paddy saying that he was the only one in Ireland that hadn’t rode a winner on him. There was no pressure on him at all. He said to me he was bouncing and I said ‘today is the day Paddy — ten wins’.
