Nallen wins first juvenile hurdle for second year running
He is not huge in stature, but he jumps and is big in heart. We had this plan for him all year as we were lucky in this race last year (when held at Tipperary), so we said we'd go again. He had a higher Flat rating than my winner (Minella Study) last year and he is a well-bred horse who is by a good sire. Corky (Carroll) had a lot of schooling done with him. Options over hurdles are scarce for him now, so he can go back on the Flat where there is a good pot in him. . He is a nice sharp horse, he doesn't know he is small and in fairness, they say the New Bays want soft ground so we'll see. He is for sale and could be a horse for America.
Eastmore hoses up on unwatered part of track
Danny rang asking for permission to ride the horse out wide as he had walked the track and said it was worth 20 to 30 lengths by keeping out. I think it suited the horse being ridden on his own as well, so he had a double benefit really. There was probably a false reading for today's result and it is the jockey who should get the (handicapper's) penalty!. Danny would have ridden a bit for me in the past and it is his first winner for me.
Byrnes & Mullins double up in Limerick feature
I was conscious coming here that today's course would be watered but wouldn't have markers, so I booked Danny as he'd be the best man to keep out wide. There is definitely 20 to 30 lengths in the difference, there has to be, and Paul Townend (on runner-up Daddy Long Legs) followed Danny as well. On ratings he had a bit to do, but we knew he had been working very well and we were hopeful of a good run. He has been a great horse, but I doubt he'll go for the Galway Hurdle as today was a bonus.
Siege Of Carthage scores for Halley and Enright
he is a fine big horse, he was always nice since he was younger but just has had a few problems. They have nursed him back and he had a lovely run in a bumper in Gowran the last day, where Aine Connolly gave him a beautiful ride and said he’d come on a lot from it. He had run in a point-to-point (in 2024) and had a lot of schooling done so we were hoping he’d run a good race. I’m not sure what they’ll do now as Josh is a seller but he’ll have no problem jumping fences too.
Consecutive monthly wins for Global Skies
we were worried about the ratings hike he received for winning the last day but he was in good form since that run and he toughed it out well today. He is versatile and while I wouldn’t rule out going back on the Flat, he definitely looks like he could step up further in trip over hurdles. Charlie Doocey and his wife Nuala (owners) came over from England this morning to see him run so this is great. They are originally from Mayo and their family is still in Ireland, and it is great that they have a few horses in training in Ireland. This is my first horse for them.
Curling's Sallap records third victory
She is very small but is a right little mare. She is very tough, that's three wins and she was going to win before falling in Thurles last winter too. That was a heavy fall, but she was very tough to come back from that. The handicapper will catch up with her, but hopefully she might win another one.
Double for Dan King at Limerick
I'm delighted with that as she was on her last chance today, so she must have known! It was a weak race, but she is a great jumper and will probably be better over a fence. She is a good honest mare, and after this we might go for another hurdle before going chasing.
