THE HORATIO'S GARDEN NOVICES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) The Veterinary Officer reported that A Great Excuse (IRE), trained by Max Comley, appeared to show evidence of possible administration of a substance, with dried blood present in the region of the left jugular vein.
The Trainer and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed.
Comley explained that the gelding had been administered with an antibiotic and sodium iodide two days ago, 3 March 2026, which was verified by the home Veterinary Surgeon.
Being satisfied that A Great Excuse (IRE) had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed the horse to run and ordered A Great Excuse (IRE) to be routine tested post-race.
