THE WILTSHIRE & BATH AIR AMBULANCE HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) Permission was given for Daany (IRE) to go early to post and for Penn Avenue (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference following jumping the final hurdle involving the winner, Thankyouandplease (FR), ridden by Paddy Hanlon and Prince Rhinegold (IRE), placed second, ridden by Sean Houlihan.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Thankyouandplease (FR) as despite hanging left- handed and taking Prince Rhinegold (IRE) off its intended line on two separate occasions, the distance Prince Rhinegold (IRE) was moved was marginal and little momentum was lost with the rider of Prince Rhinegold (IRE) able to continue riding his mount forward.
Further, Thankyouandplease (FR) appeared to be holding Prince Rhinegold (IRE) at the line with the winning distance being half a length.
Hanlon was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he continued to use his whip in his right hand despite his mount hanging left-handed, taking Prince Rhinegold (IRE) off its intended line on two occasions.
The performance of Frank Stamper (GB) which started favourite and finished seventh of twelve, beaten by 12 ¼ lengths, was considered.
The representative of Warren Greatrex’s explanation that the race may have come to soon having ran 10 days previously at Plumpton, was noted.
