An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Rogue Sea (GB), ridden by Ross Chapman and trained by Jennie Candlish which was held up in the rear before being tenderly ridden to finish third beaten 18 ½ lengths.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer examined Rogue Sea (GB) post-race and reported the gelding had no abnormalities other than having lost its left-fore shoe, a fact that Chapman reported at Scales.

The rider stated that his instructions were to settle the gelding in behind the leaders, see how the race unfolded and to do his best.

Chapman explained that Rogue Sea (GB) travelled well into the back straight, however as the leaders quickened on approach to the fourth last hurdle, he was unable to stay with them having raced and jumped green on several occasions, the gelding jumped the fourth last novicey losing ground between that hurdle and three out.

He added that the gelding again jumped green, landing slightly awkwardly at the second last.

Chapman felt that he ridden to obtain the best possible placing.
