Cromwell strikes again with Secret
They went a good gallop and he got a nice lead. He’s a nice horse,. I suppose he was getting weight off the winners, which was a bit of a help, but it was still a nice performance on his first run. He picked up well. He’s a 70 odd rated horse on the Flat so we won’t be getting too excited but at the same time he’s a nice type and he’s by a very good sire too. To be fair to him when he won down in Listowel he was drawn very wide and he had to do it the hard way and won. He has plenty of size and scope so hopefully he can keep improving.
Top marks for The Truant's jumping at Punchestown
He had been running really well on the Flat all year but had been disappointing over hurdles. That ground was perfect for him. The ground during the year was getting too tacky and he was just struggling on it. He needs proper good ground over hurdles nowadays. If he had better form over hurdles, he jumps a fence really well and I would have chanced chasing. I knew this place can produce lovely ground at this time of year so it was worth a shot, otherwise I was giving up with the hurdles. It’s great to see, he done it so well. He’s in the online sale next week. If he gets sold on Tuesday, he’ll be gone. I think he’d win hurdles all day in England, just with the way the ground is — it’s nicer ground over there. He’d also be a lovely horse for the all-weather over two miles over there. Their winter tracks can be good ground but over here, bar Thurles, you won’t get much better ground and it’s much better racing too.
Glen glides to easy success
He was very unlucky the last day but horse and rider were okay and that was the number one thing. The lads (Michael Bowe and brother John) had spotted this race. It was only nine days later but we said he was fresh and well so we’d take the chance and he did what he had to do today. He’s a good horse and he’ll be entered in all the good races now. That breed improves with age, the lads have been saying that from the start. We’re very happy with him and very happy to have him. Nearly every day he goes racing he gets best turned out, he’s that good-looking a horse. He’ll probably get an entry in the Hatton’s Grace and go from there. That’s what the lads are thinking. They’ve been there before, I haven’t.
Reiki Revolution gives Cromwell a double
He won well. It was a messy sort of a race, he was settling grand but it just got a bit messy and he went on with him,. He did everything right, it wasn’t much of a race but it was great to win with him. He jumped well, he got in tight to one or two but on the whole you’d be happy enough. I’m hoping the handicapper doesn’t do a whole lot to him, I don’t think he should off the back of that race. He’s quite keen in his races, he thinks he’s quicker than he is. I know he has run over further but he didn’t win. You’d just like to see him doing things right. I don’t know how he’s going to handle slower, winter, ground. It’s grand that he’s won a race.
92/1 Punchestown double for Paul Flynn
He’s a grand horse. We always liked him but he was a very weak horse,. David and Albert Broad recommended him to us, they bought him privately and told us he was a nice horse. I was looking for a horse for Paddy. We ran him a few times and then gave him a break. He’s just gotten stronger. He’ll be a much better chaser, I think, in time. He’s a lucky horse so far, I know he’s only won today. I wasn’t surprised he won, he shows us plenty. He’s young but we’ll definitely run him again. He does get a little bit worried and panicky so if there are any signs he's not doing well, we’ll pull the plug. I’d say he definitely won’t be running in January anyway.
