HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (Part of the Racing Excellence Series) An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line involving the winner, Cornish Storm (GB) ridden by Oscar Palmer and Dirty Den (GB), placed third, ridden by Harry Atkins.
Having heard the evidence, the Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Cornish Storm (GB)’s placing as Dirty Den (GB) had made both slow and little impression on Cornish Storm (GB) from jumping the final hurdle up and until where the interference occurred at around the 1/2 furlong marker.
Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that the interference resulted in Dirty Den (GB) losing ground, they further noted that thereafter on the run to the line, the gelding failed to make further inroads into the lead and therefore taking these two factors into account the Stewards could not be satisfied on the balance of probabilities that had the interference not occurred, that Dirty Den (GB) would have finished in front of Cornish Storm (GB).
The Stewards therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
Palmer was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he was inattentive in allowing his mount to drift left-handed without timely correction, causing Atkins to be taken off his intended line and to briefly stop riding.
An enquiry was held to consider interference rounding the home bend involving Vernon Subutex (FR), unplaced, ridden by Roisin Leech, the winner, Cornish Storm (GB) ridden by Oscar Palmer, Zaochen Enki (FR), which was pulled up, ridden by Freddie Keighley and Balboa (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Harry Atkins.
Leech was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as she moved right-handed into the bend when insufficiently clear, causing Zaochen Enki (FR) to become short of room and it’s rider having to take a check.
