Ben Pauling was fined £140 for doubly declaring Greatness Awaits (IRE) to run in the 'Haydock Park Welcomes Racing To School Maiden Hurdle (Novices' Championship Hurdle Series Qualifier)' at Haydock and the ‘Join Racing TV Now Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race)’ at Warwick, with the gelding running in the latter.
Jonathan England, the rider of Jeteye (IRE), placed fourth, beaten 15¼ lengths was questioned regarding his riding of the gelding in the final furlong.
England stated that his instructions had been to drop in and get a lead, before commenting that Jeteye (IRE) had jumped carefully throughout, took a blow leaving the back straight and again halfway up the home straight when outpaced, before making a significant jumping error at the second last hurdle.
In explaining his riding after jumping the final hurdle, England indicated that despite looking around to see where the remaining runner was near the 1 furlong marker, he at all times had maintained a hands and heels forward drive on Jeteye (IRE) who was plugging home at the one-pace and the gelding’s finishing effort had been flattered by the fact V Twelve (IRE), placed second, and DIAMOND DE VINDENCY (FR), placed third, were tiring on the run-in after untidy jumps at the final hurdle and ultimately had paid the price for trying to go with the winner Fourofakind (IRE).
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Jeteye (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
England's explanation was noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that V Twelve (IRE), placed second, lost its left fore shoe.
