Joyce rides out claim aboard commanding Scallionator
Mick has big faith in me and I'm grateful to the Clearys Syndicate for letting me ride The Scallionator as well. Doing bottom-weight is no trouble for me and I don't even own a weighing scales. I just come racing and enjoy it. The next step is to find that good horse who will bring me to the next level. I rode The Scallionator in Royal Ascot and in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes this year, so hopefully I can get one of those type horses. I have given Wesley a lot of his winners and it is nice for him to do this. Things (injuries) have happened along the way but he is where he is now and is my stable jockey now. The instructions were to bounce him out and lead, and the reason he came here was to qualify him for the final of the series at Naas (October 11).
Marco Polo travels to ready victory
He had a very good run first time, with the form of the race working out well, so Aidan pitched him in the Gimcrack. He was very keen and did everything wrong at York, so we put a line through that and this race worked out lovely and gave him confidence. Wayne said he has a lot of pace and coming back to five (furlongs) would be no problem to him. He has shown a lot of potential at home and is lovely looking. It wouldn't surprise me if he pitched up in the (Group 1) Middle Park Stakes as he is a horse of potential. He can boogie.
Tokyo finally finds gold
He deserves that after being narrowly beaten in Gowran and, at Roscommon the last day, we thought the seven-and-a-half furlongs caught him. We dropped him in distance today, he has the early speed for six (furlongs) and we'll keep him at that now. That's my first winner for Jim Browne's son Ben, so I'm delighted to get it. The horse might be for sale, but I'd love to keep him for as long as possible and, if he isn't sold, he could go for a handicap in the Curragh next.
Alpine becomes the bride
She is rated 89 and I had previously taken the scenic route with her. She was drawn 18 of 16 at Gowran last week, but the only reason I ran was because we were running out of Goffs bonus race options. Today's race was the final one, and Paddy Hale (owner) worked with Goffs many years ago, so it was great to get E50,000 back. She is learning to race on the job, and I think she is a classy filly who will be a better three-year-old. Billy (Lee) thought she could run again this season, no problem, and there are a few fillies' stakes races for her. She's also in the Goffs Million, so that is a live option too.
Lordan On The Ball as he doubles up
"Like a lot of my horses, my brother Paul picked her out cheaply in England. He gets them and when they're home, I see if they're good enough to keep going."
Enigma breaks the code at the second attempt
He is a very nice horse and had a very good run in Gowran the last day, when Shane (Foley) gave him a lovely education. He was drawn wide again today and did it very well in the end. I thought we were in trouble as he came from a fair way back, but he got motoring in the last furlong and took lengths off the others. Gary said he gave him a lovely ride through the race and he quickened very impressively. We might look at a winners' or Listed race next, although he probably wants nice ground. We have only had 10 runners all year and had sickness through the summer. We pulled up stumps for a while and got them all right, and everything that has run so far has been running very well. We normally only get going around late May, so the sickness slowed things up but the nice horses are still there.
