Permission was given for Capstan (GB) to be mounted on the course and for Songo (IRE) to be mounted on the course and go to post early.
After an initial false start, the start was effected successfully on the second attempt.
However, having reviewed recordings of the false start, the Starters were satisfied that no riders should be reported for contravening the starting procedures.
Jumping the first hurdle, Beachcomber (FR), which was pulled up following the incident after the rider lost his iron, jumped sharply right-handed, which caused Much Too Dear (IRE) to be brought down, hampering the winner Destroytheevidence (GB) on its inside and causing Monks Meadow (IRE), placed second, and Tiger Blade (GB), unplaced, to be taken off their intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Harry Cobden reported that Songo (IRE), placed third, jumped poorly and Kielan Woods reported that Deerstalker (IRE), placed fourth, ran green.
