Permission was given for Oasis Cover (GB) to wear a red hood to the start.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Black Rock Beauty (IRE), ridden by Harry Russell and trained by Richard Fahey, which raced towards the rear throughout before staying on under a hands and heels ride to finish eighth of ten runners, beaten by 6¼ lengths.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer examined the gelding post-race and had nothing to report.

The rider stated his instructions were to jump out, take a lead and sit where he was comfortable, enabling the gelding to get into a rhythm and finish the race as best as possible.

Russell explained that Black Rock Beauty (IRE) was a step slow into stride and thereafter he had been reluctant to bustle him along early, preferring to allow the gelding to find his feet early off a strong pace.

Russell added that from 3 furlongs to 2 furlongs out, he was reluctant to fully commit down the inner of Lieutenant Sir (GB), which was racing greenly and looked likely to drop down to the rail on the bend.

Russell continued by saying that once he was confident it was safe for him to improve his position through along the rail, he asked Black Rock Beauty (IRE) for its finishing effort near the 2 furlong marker, from which point the gelding stayed on evenly despite still showing signs of inexperience.

Russell indicated that he was unaware why Black Rock Beauty (IRE) had been dropped back to 5 furlongs on this occasion, having run over 6 furlongs on both previous starts, however his recommendation to the trainer would be that Black Rock Beauty (IRE) needs a step back up in trip on this evidence.

His explanation was noted.

Inside the final furlong Havana Jag (GB), placed third, hung right-handed away from the whip before being corrected by its rider, this resulted in Oasis Cover (GB), unplaced, being briefly hampered.

After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Havana Jag (GB).
