Permission was given for Wave Rider (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Gran Descans (GB), ridden by Colin Keane and trained by Harry Charlton which having raced wide early appeared to be tenderly handled in the home straight finishing ninth of twelve beaten 9 ¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary officer examined the colt post-race and had nothing to report.
Keane explained that in his briefing with Mr Charlton he was advised that Gran Descans (GB) was a big and raw type.
As such he was instructed to try get placed midfield but, due to the wide draw he would probably get caught wide.
The rider explained that as he wanted to get closer to the rail in the early stages but horses that were drawn on his inside had continued to improve up his inside leaving him racing wide, which he accepted.
In the home straight he had stayed out wide for his run but felt that his runner was one paced and that the other runners had quickened away from him.
Keane further stated that 1 ½ furlongs out he had to steady off Newtown Duke (IRE) and was only staying on at best and had obtained the best possible placing.
The trainer’s representative stated that he was satisfied with the ride given to Gran Descans (GB) under the circumstances.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Rob Hornby reported that Respond (IRE), placed second, hung right-handed and was denied a clear run from 1 ½ - ½ a furlong out.
