Apprentice jockeys' championship-leader Sam Coen moved to 25 winners this season with a timely success in Killarney's Carry Out Off-Licence Handicap today, scoring on the Andy Slattery-trained Suir Monad (85/40fav).

The 69-rated grey son of Dark Angel today made all the running and scored readily by 2.5 lengths from Down The Glen .

The win moves Coen, who has recently incurred both five-day and four-day suspensions and thus misses most of the season's conclusion, three clear (25-22) of Reese Holohan at the head of the apprentice jockeys' title, with Paddy Harnett third, on 21.

Following Suir Monad's success, Andy Slattery's brother Brian Slattery stated “he has been promising to do that for a while as he is a decent horse, who had been a little disappointing up until now. We thought he'd have won before now and hopefully now he'll step on from here. He is a nice horse.

“He did it well today and got a grand ride from Sam.

“He has been lightly raced up until now and while he's in that vein of form, we'll definitely get him out again.”

Coen subsequently won the following race, on the David Marnana-trained Jasmine Affanalis .
