Jagged Edge is another for Weld & Hayes Dermot Weld and Chris Hayes continued their fine start to the new season by taking the opener at Cork with Jagged Edge. A never nearer third on debut at Dundalk in February, the Newtown Anner Stud Farm-owned bay went off an easy-to-back 9/2 chance this afternoon, drifting from early shows of 9/4. Settled in second by Hayes, the successful Blue Point gelding was pushed along to lead over two furlongs from home. Soon ridden, he found plenty for pressure in the closing stages and had two-lengths to spare at the line, with Omni Man (10/3) filling the runner-up spot. There was another three-quarters of a length back to debutant Collecting Coin (10/1) in third, while the well-backed Sidney Reilly (9/2 from 25s early) was fourth. Returned an easy to back 11/4 favourite (11/8 early), the Johnny Murtagh-trained Tashir could only manage fifth. "His mother (Jaega) was a useful filly who won on slow ground and, like Jagged Edge, had size as well," Kris Weld, son of the winning trainer, commented. "He had a good run at Dundalk and it was just whether or not he'd handle the slower ground today, but we thought he would. "We'll see where he fits in in the coming weeks but he showed a good attitude and won well at the line. We'll feel our way gently and you'd have to love his attitude." STEWARDS REPORT * The Raceday Stewards informed Kevin Thomas Coleman, trainer, that Kasper Hauser (GB) would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again.
