Last Round lands a gamble in Limerick Gordon Elliott's Last Round readily asserted from his rivals to open his account under rules in the Grant Thornton Maiden Hunters Chase at Limerick. Josh Halford's mount went on from his rivals entering the straight and was clear after he negotiated two out. He soared over the last to increase the lead over a rallying West Of Carrig. The six-year-old gelding galloped on to score by 10 lengths. He brought up a gamble having been backed from 10/1 to 7/2 favourite. Runner-up West Of Carrig went off at 5/2 and was 11 lengths clear of Nibbles (28/1). Halford said: “It was very easy, so you couldn’t complain. “He took me the whole way, travelled well and jumped very well. “The loose horse probably did me a favour, rather than getting me in trouble. Just to have him there, kind of helped me along. “I was happy with him, he did it very easy and I didn’t have to ask him a whole pile of questions. “He was working very well at home - I gave him a school, and he was jumping well. “His form is actually quite good and it was a maiden hunters chase. I thought he was good enough to win one of them anyway. “It’s great to be in a yard that is producing so many winners and it’s nice to be able to get one for him as well. “Gordon has been very good to me, he’s given me plenty of opportunities. The same with Enda Bolger, he’s been very good to me as well. “I’m very grateful and I’m getting a lot of outside opportunities as well. I’m tipping along nicely, I’m happy.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
