Maddox strikes again at Dundalk The veteran Jered Maddox edged a good duel in the opener at Dundalk to notch a ninth victory at the all-weather venue. There were plenty in with chances going to the furlong pole in the sprint handicap over the minimum trip but it boiled down to a battle between Jered Maddox Sporting Hero close home. It was David Marnane’s charge who stuck his head out to secure a half-length win under Luke McAteer, at odds of 9/1. Marnane said: "Just the 12 (career) wins now, he is disappointing me! "He's a great old horse, and he's two for two in Laytown and we would like to go back and see if we could do three for three. "It was a good pot and a good race. "Five (furlongs) just depends on the pace, he does roll home well. He's in great nick and he is really, really well. "We were going to run him over six last week and my brother Ed was the instigator of waiting - I'm glad we did now. "I don't know what the plan is, that was the thoughts up to here. "It was a good performance." The race was marred by an injury to Crystal Luna a furlong-and-a-half from home. Jockey Nicola Burns got to her feet after a fall. (Quotes by Michael Graham)
