Rory Mulligan was seen to good effect when bringing Rahmi from virtually last to first in the straight to land the €150,000 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Sovereign Path Handicap at Leopardstown.

The Johnny Murtagh-trained gelding had just one of his 15 rivals behind at the home bend but got a clear run on the outer to lead inside the final 100 yards.

The 14/1 shot came home strongly under Mulligan (19), from Navan, and had a length and a quarter to spare over Glenfinnan with Tribal Nation the same distance further adrift in third.

The 7/4 favourite Gleneagle Bay completed the places in fourth.

Murtagh said, “It’s great, Champions Weekend is a big weekend.

“Rory is one of my apprentices and he’s been working hard. Thanks to Richard (McNally, owner) and his team this horse came back in good form.

“He got a bit of a hold-up at the start of the year. I was very happy with his last run, and the plan was always to come here.

“Seven furlongs suits him well. When the rain came, I thought it would help him.

“I hope there’s not a golden highway down that outside because I have a few fancied runners later in the day.

“I said to him to take his medicine (from stall 16), cruise around behind them and get a bit of cover as best you can and then in the straight peel him to the outside.

“I had four horses and I was shouting for each one of them at different stages.”
