Genesis recorded his fourth career win and second at the Curragh this season when showing great speed throughout in the €100,000 Dubai Duty Free Rockingham Handicap.

The Mick Mulvany-trained gelding was fitted with cheekpieces for the first time in this five-furlong test and was sent off at the generous odds of 25/1.

Wesley Joyce ’s mount was ridden to assert a furlong out but needed the line in the closing stages and held on by a neck from Sarahmae Dark Ace was just half a length behind in third with Cuban Grey completing the places in fourth.

Mulvany said, “I know he’s a very fast horse; I’ve always said that. He’s had bits of problems with his wind, and he’s had a couple of jobs done on him. It seems to be working this year.

“He’s shocking pacey at home and that’s why I said I’d bring him back to five. We tried him at Cork the last day, it was his first time at it, and I’d say it was a shock to the system.

“Before this we’ve been riding him to try and get home but today I said to Wesley to go out there and ride him from the front. He did everything that he was asked.

“The Curragh has been very lucky for us and we’re after nailing a few big handicaps.

“He’s in again at Bellewstown on Thursday. I’m not sure if he’ll run; we’ll see what the handicapper does.”

Mulvany, who trains near Kells in County Meath, was saddling his fifth winner at the Curragh this season.
