Pride Of Place gets off the mark under O'Dwyer A promising third last time out, the Enda Bolger trained Pride Of Place made most of the running under Charlie O'Dwyer to register a first career success in Division l of the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase at Tipperary. Formerly in the care of the now retired Michael Hourigan, the gelding had shown promise on a couple of outings over flights. Switched to fences straight after joining Bolger, the six-year-old showed little on his first three starts before improving when stepped up in trip last time at Punchestown. Sent straight to the front from the off here, O'Dwyer led or disputed with Fairyhill Run for much of the contest. Having survived a bad mistake four out, the 5/1jf rallied to find extra from the third last. Strongly pressed by the gambled on Walk In Time (12/1-5/1jf) on the run to the last, the J.P. McManus owned winner kept on in game fashion for a three length victory. Enda Bolger said: “I just had a phone call from his previous trainer, Michael Hourigan, and he told me how to train him. “He got a lovely ride from Charlie and goes on the good ground. “That was a 0-110 and he’s 101 so hopefully he might still be in the same bracket. He stays well and I thought I’d win a Ladies Cup with him so that’s gone out the window now!” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
