While failing to make an impact on debut over the course and distance last Monday, Romeo Sensini left that effort well behind him in the Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden.

Trained by Andy Slattery and ridden by his son Andrew, the Magna Grecia bay made virtually all in the colours of Laura Flood and Nicola Dwyer.

Out of Listed winner Lily's Rainbow and bought by Felim Mac Eoin for E12,000 as a foal, the 11/2 chance (backed from 10s to 10/3 early) was ridden with less than two-furlongs to go and soon shot clear, eventually coming home 10-lengths to the good.

The Noel Meade-trained Check This Out (7/1) was best of the rest under Colin Keane, a short head in front of Divelment (5/2f), who finished ahead of the winner last week, in third.

"I thought he’d do it last week but he just ran too green in behind," the winning trainer commented.

"Andrew didn't want me to run him at this track as he thought he was too raw for it but he came on a lot from last week, although he didn't do much during the week.

"That's what I expected last week, he's a nice horse.

"Felim Mac Eoin is a vet from Galway. He did a bit of vetting in Hong Kong so he'd have a few connections out there. That's where I'd say he’ll end up."

STEWARDS REPORTS

D.S. O'Sullivan, rider of Cliadh Dubh trained by Daniel William O'Sullivan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ducked left coming out of the stalls.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Gas Works Wall trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran up on the rails on the first bend.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident rounding the first bend involving Spinning Around ridden by G.M. Ryan, Cliadh Dubh, ridden by D.S. O'Sullivan, and Gas Works Wall, ridden by D.P. McDonogh where it appeared Gas Works Wall struck the rail knocking an upright. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D.P. McDonogh stated that his mount darted for the railing of its own accord. G.M. Ryan and D.S. O'Sullivan both agreed with his evidence. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
