Donnacha O'Brien 's South Island wore down Summer Is Tomorrow in the final stride of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race at Navan.

The 2/1 shot was down in class and kept finding in the final furlong to just about reel in Summer Is Tomorrow (11/10f) by a head.

Paddy Harnett said: "He put his head down where it mattered and that's the most important thing.

"I was only going through the motions up the straight. I was confident in a way that I was able to pick up Joseph's (O'Brien, Summer Is Tomorrow). He did and I didn't get to the bottom of my lad either, he saves a little bit for himself which is a good thing because he will last.

"In those better races, I think he could improve again from today.

"In fairness to him, he has been running in serious races. He was in behind, in his maiden, Christmas Day - an Epsom Derby winner.

"It was nice to get his head in front again today and hopefully that will give him confidence to improve again.

"In races like these, or any type of race, millimetres matter, so his head was down at the right time."
