Stede Bonnet strikes for Swan & Elliott Beaten by just three-quarters of a length in second on debut at Kilbeggan last month, Stede Bonnet went a place better in the concluding Slan Abhaile (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race. As short as 5/4 in early shows for this 10-runner contest, the Gordon Elliott-trained victor proved easy-to-back and was returned at 4/1 under Harry Swan. Settled behind the leaders, the Walk In The Park four-year-old improved to lead on the approach to the straight and soon had all his rivals off the bridle. Ridden from the furlong pole, he ultimately came home six-and-a-half lengths to the good in the colours of Agardsley Investments Limited, with Watch Hill (11/1 from 22s) filling the runner-up spot. Well-supported from 12s into 17/2, Cooladdi finished another five-and-a-half lengths away in third, while the Willie Mullins-trained Forty Kay (5/6f) could only manage a disappointing fourth. "He was a lot less green today and put his head down. He had a little look at Kilbeggan but travelled well and quickened well today. The race was a little stoppy-starty but I was happy enough throughout. "He was a E75,000 store, he should keep improving as he is still light and I think he'll be a nice horse in time."
