Winner Weegeebear claimed at Dundalk Weegeebear caused a 40/1 upset to win Dundalk’s opening Irishinjuredjockeys.com Claiming Race today, scoring for owner/trainer Cormac Farrell before being subsequently claimed for €5,000. Placed just once from 11 previous attempts, the son of Kodi Bear was contesting his first claimer and quickened well under jockey Keithen Kennedy to score readily by 2.75 lengths, from 62-rated Merchants Arch. Farrell, now based at Michael Halford’s former base Copper Beech Stables, wasn’t present and jockey Kennedy commented "I rode him over five (furlongs) here not too long ago when he missed the break completely and never got into the race. Today, the race worked out perfect for him. “I dropped him in, took my time, they went hard out in front and they set the race up for me really. We were a little bit off the bridle turning in when I got a thump into him, and he got going, picked up and did it well. "Once he is on a going day, he's a genuine little horse. He has plenty of ability, he doesn't lack that way." Winner Weegeebear was claimed by Mark Devlin to be trained by Ado McGuinness while fourth-placed Captain Ciano was similarly claimed for €5,000, by Peter McArdle to be trained by Tom McCourt.
