The opening Tote Always SP Or Better At Galway Maiden Hurdle was a weak affair and 1/4 favourite Welonlyhavedone had no difficulty in making the most of a good opportunity.

A point-to-point winner at Liscarroll in March for Robert Clancy, the Diamond Boy gelding wasn't beaten far in a strong bumper at Galway on his first start for Gavin Cromwell.

Here, returning to Ballybrit for his hurdling debut, the Jimmy Fyffe-owned five-year-old made most of the running under Keith Donoghue and went on after the second-last to beat Survivors Sister by an easy 12 lengths.

Trainer Cromwell said: "I fancied him to run well here in a bumper at the festival but he disappointed and while I know he went off very short odds today, I was a little nervous to be honest.

"He did it well but it wasn't much of a race, so we won't be getting excited yet. He is a grand horse though and we will look for a rated novice now."
