FormscanBy Donal Murphy - BUCKAROO is taken to upstage Native Trail. Beaten a short head by leading Epsom Derby hope Piz Badile on his return to action at Leopardstown, the selection then impressively dismissed six rivals over the course and distance in the Tetrarch Stakes. That success came on yielding ground and so he should have no issues with the forecast rain. Native Trail was beaten for the first time in the Newmarket equivalent last month. Successful on his previous five starts, the Godolphin owned bay is by far the highest rated runner in the line-up. He has yet to encounter anything other than a quick surface and so the likely rain softened ground is a cause for concern. Wexford Native finished four lengths behind Buckaroo when they clashed in the Tetrarch and it’s difficult to see him reverse the form. He should however give a good account of himself for last year’s winning trainer Jim Bolger. The supplemented Ivy League is the sole Aidan O’Brien trained representative in the line-up. He probably should have won the Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown earlier this month but gave too much rope to the front-running Pretreville and ultimately had to settle for second. He will need to improve again if he is to win this but given his connections, that is a distinct possibility.
