Coming here last year I thought he had a good chance, but today I thought there were a few in there that probably had a bit more class than him, but you can’t beat honesty. The longer I hang around this game, attitude is more important than an awful lot of things. If you look at his program for the last seven or eight years, it’s going to be pretty much the same!. He hit the line strong and was an impressive winner. They are his conditions — six furlongs, some juice in the ground and a strongly-run race. It was a lovely ride as well and James was patient. It’s lovely as he’s a homebred and owned by Will Armitage and my parents. He’s a real character of a horse and a favourite in the yard. He pops up every year and owes us nothing. He seems best kept fresh for the autumn. We went to Doncaster at the backend of last season and may go there again as Will is based over there.

He's a nice colt, he had a lovely run the first day at the Curragh. We were happy to come here and bring him back to six as he has a lot of pace. He learned plenty that day at the Curragh and Seamie was very complimentary of him there. It was very straightforward and he's a nice colt, he's learning all the time and still has a bit of learning to do. He's solid and mature and I'd say we'll kick on with him for the rest of the summer. He's a very good mover, likes fast ground and Seamie said he handled the undulations of the track here. We might go across the water as the summer progresses for a stakes race.

Going to the Curragh I thought he'd run a big race and things didn't happen right that day. I gave him time to mature and to fill his frame and he confirmed today what he did in May. I think he enjoyed it and he is a quick horse. We are lucky to have some nice two-year-olds and I'd rate him with them. There is a €100,000 race (Goffs Sportsman's Challenge) next weekend at Naas for him and his owners are mostly Naas-based.

That was a very good performance with ten stone. He was very relaxed and Billy said he went through the race lovely. He said that’s as good as he’s felt on a seasonal return. We had a few little things that held us up earlier in the spring and a few weeks ago we were thinking this might come too early for him. The last ten days or so he’s come to himself. Donal (Spring, owner/breeder) is not here as I’d said two weeks ago that he was unlikely to run, so he made plans to go to Italy for the weekend. He might go for the Greenlands and he’s entered for both sprints at Royal Ascot. He obviously won’t go there if it’s lightning fast ground, so the weather will decide. Later on there is the Flying Five and maybe the Champions Day at Ascot.

He’s a nice horse. I was delighted the ground change to soft because he is a Caravaggio and he actually grows a leg on soft ground,. We were very confident today. I had Colin Keane back on board, he won on him by seven-and-a-half lengths (at Naas back in April). He got a 16lb rise then so he said he owed us one!. He is in the October Horses-in-Training Sale. I’d be sorry to lose him because I think he’d be a good four-year-old as well. He’s going the right way. I’d say there is a big premier handicap in him. It probably should have been a double but I’d say the filly in the first just parked a little bit in front, and probably wants better ground as well. This filly is a different filly over five. She was drawn one and she ends up over on the stand’s side, she lost a lot of ground to come over but she needs cover. She just runs too keen over the six. She was a little bit unlucky in the Scurry and the last day, she probably should have been third or fourth the last day. She’s a hardy filly, I’d like to try and get a bit of black-type with her. There are no five furlong races but I might look at the Listed race next weekend (Brigid’s Pastures Stakes). I might look at taking her to France next year. She seems to want an ease in the ground.
