Formscan By Mark Nunan - This race’s prize-fund has reverted to its 2011 level, yet in only one of the 14 renewals since, when the prize money was either 40k or 50k, did it attract a field of this size. The message is clear. If you want more competitive racing, reduce prize money. The consistent WHOLELOTOFBUSINESS was no match for Lieber Nicc in last year’s renewal, but has race- fitness on his side in the rematch and his third in a good handicap at Listowel was probably a career-best. Daniel King takes over in the saddle for the first time. Lieber Nicc is one of three in the race for Henry de Bromhead, but hasn’t been seen since that wide-margin success a year ago and stable jockey Darragh O’Keeffe has elected to ride Radiator Springs who was fourth in a blanket finish at Listowel. Another with claims on Harvest Festival form is Ben Hur, who had three of these behind when runner-up on handicap debut in the Lartigue Hurdle.%0A

Sadly the Schuster’s aren’t here today but part of the crew are. It’s great that he has won, he deserved to win one and hopefully he’ll progress now. I think the better ground helped him, he has got a bit of pace and is a nice horse. We have no major plan for him, but I’d say Listowel could be on the cards. The Schuster’s have a big connection with Listowel, so I’d say if there is something suitable there, that’s where he’ll go. We’d like to find something in between as well.

Wholelotofbusiness wasn’t winning out of turn and should have won here in August but got caught up in a faller, when Jack Kennedy rode him. He then bumped into a really smart horse (I’ll Sort That) of Declan Queally’s in Listowel and coming here with his weight, the race was his to lose and I couldn’t see him getting beaten. Watching it, I was worried as there was no real gallop on and thought he’d want a stiff two miles but Gary picked up the running far out. To get another winner is super but I’m more delighted with our bumper horses recently, as they are the ones you want to build on this.

I was a little bit disappointed in Bellewstown (eighth) because he was a bit keen. I was glad Paddy went on with him there at halfway because if he gets to relax, he finishes out the trip, obviously, like any horse. Paddy said they were going slow at halfway, so he just decided to go on and inject a bit of pace. He knew he would stay well up the hill, so it worked out well. It was a good run in Bellewstown and obviously the race did work out very well (winner Putapouninthejar followed up in the Galway Hurdle). He does it like here and his other wins were in Kilbeggan - something similar, righthanded. We'll see what is there next for him. We'll see what the handicapper does and freshen him up.

It was a dramatic start, but he was in a lovely position. Turning for home, Jack obviously picked off the horse (Baila Conmigo) that was leading him up the hill. We knew he would stay really well. He had a bit of time off, but he has built on every run so far this season and it is lovely to see him do that because he deserved it.
