Formscan By Stuart Howden - GLEN ECHO (3) ran his best race so far when second to the subsequent Listowel runner-up Priorstown at Roscommon in late August and could go a place better this time. That race has certainly worked out well with the third and sixth horses home both winning since and the three-year-old might now get his turn ahead of the three-time handicap hurdle winner Red Glory who has his first start in a Flat handicap in five years here. Max Meridius is also a winner over hurdles since his most recent effort on the Flat, and he too could show up well.

I thought there would be more pace on with what the lads were saying, but they were all bark and no bite. He was a fraction keen, but if he develops the right way, the better-grade races will have a stronger pace which will suit him. Down the back, the hurdles are on the outside and I brought him wide in order to attack them, that was the reason to go out there. for whatever reason Desert Friend has become keen in his races. He's not bad at home and we are just trying to keep him settled. We changed his bit for his last run but he was keen again tonight. In fairness to Chris (Hayes), he held on to him although he is now giving more of a blow than the horse. I was wondering why he didn't ‘go’ at the two-furlong pole but he said afterwards that he needed a break!. Chris’ experience counted though, as he knew he would reap rewards at the end of the race. He said he pulled for 1m6f of the (two miles) race, so it was a great ride. Small fields and maybe a turning track (on turf), would suit so hopefully he will win another one.
