Formscan By Alan Magee - JURALITY had a number of these rivals behind when a creditable third behind Masego in a 19-runner Leopardstown handicap over an extended 1m4f a fortnight ago. The Paul Flynn-trained gelding was well-backed on that occasion and just gets the nod to confirm placings with Tassarolo who was just behind in fifth. Mephisto has no stamina concerns having won twice over this trip at Dundalk and completed a quickfire hat-trick over hurdles last August. He should benefit from an outing at Dundalk last month, while Al What made the frame behind Miss Australie at Roscommon last week.

Gavin gave Tassarolo a very good ride and while he has only ridden a few horses for us, he had won a maiden hurdle on this horse and is a talented young rider. Gavin rode Tassarolo the last day and knew him, so we kept riding arrangements the same. It was a great result for me and while it was hard luck on the owners (Final Reminder Syndicate) of the runner-up, both horses ran well. The two horses are very similar and there were a lot of people asking me ‘which one?’ today, but they are similarly rated and really I couldn’t split them. Both were going up in trip but it was just which one would see it out better, and the winner did. Tassarolo is owned by our local publican (in the Full Of Hope Syndicate) and unfortunately one of the members John O’Shea passed away the day the horse won his maiden hurdle. The only thing I can think of is going up in trip. He ran over two-and-a-half at Sligo one day where he made a bad mistake and should have won. He works like a good horse at home and we always knew he kept a bit for himself on the Flat. His jumping was letting him down earlier on his career as well. He got a few terrible falls and I'd say he lost his confidence as well. We ran him in a few claimers and put him in for E8,000 and we just said if he goes, he goes. I kept telling the lads to get rid of him. He hadn't won since March of 2023 and I just told them to get something else. I knew he had ability and I said to bring him somewhere else either, to see would that work. Thank God neither of those options came to pass!. He is a lovely horse at home and any kid could ride him. He is just a pure rogue. He is handicapped over fences and can go back to Dundalk for those two-mile races as well. He won very easy today so maybe he will go to the next grade over hurdles. It wasn't ideal running her back just eight days after Thurles but these four-year-old fillies maidens are very scarce, so we said we'd have a go. We'd have been more confident if the rain didn't come but Cian was actually surprised how well she handled the ground because she's a very small, light filly. . She jumped very quick and the step up in trip seemed to suit her. She'll definitely have another run on this type of ground, and when it gets too soft we'll pull the plug on jumping until the spring. She had a very unlucky summer, with draws and getting boxed in, and I kept telling the lads to be patient, that she's a good filly. .
