The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding hasn’t raced over hurdles since finishing third to Saldier, trying to give the winner 7lb, in this race 12 months ago. He subsequently won a Listed race on the Flat at Naas and, in a light campaign this year, perhaps found the trip too far last time behind Kyprios in the Irish St Leger. Abacadabras is a three-time winner at Grade 1 level including the Aintree Hurdle last year when defeating Buzz. However, he’s been absent since upped to three miles at Leopardstown last Christmas and has to give the selection 11lb. Anna Bunina, a four-time winner this year, and Galway Hurdle runner-up Jesse Evans are both admirable dual-purpose performers.
