Formscan By Eamonn Murphy - This looks competitive and we'll take a chance that the local runner, BETTERTHANALRIGHT, could be primed to run a big race. He hasn't set the world alight over fences lately but back on a course where he's won before and re-united with Paddy Mangan (has won two on him) could help the Cloudings gelding to re-discover his sparkle. The previous point-to-point winner looked a nice progressive young stayer when scoring here, and at Thurles, last February, and there is surely more to come from the six-year-old. Roadtoabbeyfeale arrives here in great form and the one he beat at Limerick last time, A Decent Excuse (re-opposes). That fellow, a half-brother to the four-time scorer, Odonimee, showed himself in a good light as recently as last Saturday when triumphing at Naas. Plenty of others have chances too, with a pair better known as chasers, The Bishop Looney and Quietly Fancied particularly standing out as each-way contenders. Meanwhile Harold's Cross is quite well-treated in this sphere and he has to be respected with Kevin Sexton's 7Ib claim reducing the burden on the J P McManus runner to a miniscule nine stone three. Irish Soul, winner of this race last year, tries again, but he has a long break to overcome so we'll see how he goes in the betting.
