The Doyen gelding, who won at Grade 2 level over hurdles, went off favourite for his chasing debut in the north, but was outgunned by the winner who was electric that day. He was nicely clear of the third who came out and won a Grade 2 novice chase at Punchestown on Sunday. Royal Ascot winner Stratum is a fascinating recruit to steeplechasing after showing plenty of ability when hurdling. The Bosses Oscar has been placed in both starts over fences and should be involved.
